For example, in 2011 it hosted the XII Paragliding World Championship or in 2015, Piedrahita was the place where the Open Iberian Open FAI 2 Piedrahita 2015 was developed (National Paragliding League 2015).
There have also been several Spanish Ala Delta Championships and three Spanish Biplaza Paragliding Championships.
The flight of mountain and plain in this municipality of Avila, provide paragliding and hang glider with excellent conditions for flight XC distance, reaching flights of more than 200 km. It also has a large area of take-off conditioned with carpet.
For this reason, hundreds of fans of these aerial sports come to Piedrahita every year, providing the town with new opportunities to strengthen active tourism in the region.
